Bariatric Surgery: Waiting Times Too Long In Canada
Obesity is now acknowledged as a chronic disease with a number of related complications, and its prevalence has reached alarming epidemic proportions. While bariatric surgery is effective at treating the disease, access to this procedure is still too limited in Canada. The latest article published by Dr. Nicolas Christou, of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), in the June issue of the Canadian Journal of Surgery assesses the waiting times for this procedure.

Blood Pressure Association Comment On CARDIA Sleep Study

UK charity the Blood Pressure Association has responded to the American Medical Association CARDIA Sleep Study - "Association Between Sleep and Blood Pressure in Midlife", published in Archives of Internal Medicines (volume 169, no. 11) Mike Rich, Executive Director of UK charity the Blood Pressure Association, said: "This is an interesting study and there"s no doubt that all of us, including people who have high blood pressure, feel better after a good night"s sleep. "However, until research is done to show whether getting more sleep can actually reduce the risk of high blood pressure, we"d suggest that this would be no substitute to taking prescribed blood pressure lowering medicines and following a healthy lifestyle."
